PAVILION

A collaboration between the Barcelona based Cloud 9 architectural firm and the Pasadena Art Center, this Pavilion was inspired by the cones of the locally widespread pine tree. Concept studies and developing took place on the University its Hillside Campus before being implemented and constructed on site. The natural geometry and parametric design of the structure led to a new building process in which a balloon supported the web-like formwork made up from rugged fabric. The formwork was then filled with a newly developed sturdier concrete.
